ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Longwood, 9-1, Sunday morning at the Winthrop/Adidas Classic in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Lancers (14-7) scored five runs in the third inning and never looked back en route to the victory. The Friars (6-13) pulled to within, 5-1, in the fourth inning when senior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.). However, Longwood added four more runs in the fifth inning to seal the win.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, March 27 when they open up BIG EAST Conference play at Pittsburgh.
