PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Softball fell to Georgetown , 8-5, on Sunday, May 1 to complete its 2011 regular season play. Prior to the game, seniors Kathryn Sullivan (Langrangeville, N.Y), Ava Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) were honored for their four years of service.

Georgetown (13-19, 6-11 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-run single by Jenna Stark and a three-run home run by Jillian Webb. The Hoyas extended their lead to 8-0 in the second inning when Webb hit her second three run homer of the game. On the day, Webb registered two homers and six RBIs.

Providence (23-28, 7-12 BIG EAST) cut the lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning when freshman Mackenzie Morgan (Sulphur Springs, Texas) hit a single to left field to score Stratton. In the fifth, the Friars scored two more runs to cut the Hoyas' lead to 8-3. Stratton and freshman Corinne Rubright (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) each notched an RBI.

In the sixth inning, the Friars scored one run to make the score 8-4 when junior Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) drove in Pandiani. Morgan hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 8-5, but it wouldn't be enough as Georgetown went on to earn the win.

The Friars now wait for the BIG EAST Conference Championship field to be set.
