Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball team (12-20-1, 2-6 BIG EAST) will travel to play the USF Bulls (32-12, 10-1 BIG EAST) this weekend for a three-game conference series. The teams will face-off in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and close the series on Sunday, April 14 with the final game being played at 11:00 a.m.
Providence played a doubleheader against No. 10/11 Louisville on Tuesday, April 9. Against the Cardinals, the Friars lost 16-2 in six innings in game one and 17-6 in five innings in game two.
Senior Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.) and sophomore Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) are currently ranked in the top-25 by batting average in the BIG EAST. Kiesel is ranked 16th with a .357 batting average. Dederick is ranked 17th with a .356 batting average and is tied for ninth in the conference with Louisville's Whitney Arion with 28 RBI.
The Bulls are coming off their first loss in nine games against No. 3 Florida which cameon Wednesday, April 10. USF lost 9-1 in six innings. Senior pitcher Lindsey Richardson recorded her fourth loss on the season after pitching two innings and giving up four runs. She was relieved by freshman Erica Nunn who pitched the last four innings. Nunn has recorded a 2.96 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 12 appearances. Offensively, USF is led by junior short stop Kourtney Salvarola. She has recorded a .362 batting average (12th in BIG EAST) in the 44 games she has played and leads the team and the BIG EAST with 12 homeruns this season.
South Florida is currently ranked first in the BIG EAST standings, and is receiving votes in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA Div. I Polls.
