DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College field hockey team edged the New Hampshire Wildcats, 2-1, on Friday, Sept. 13 in Durham, N.H. With the win the Friars improve their record to 3-2.
Providence took a 1-0 lead at 11:21 when junior Daniella Bernasconi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) finished a feed from teammate Steph Guglielmo (Castle Rock, Colo.). Guglielmo's feed from the right side was buried by Bernasconi to notch her sixth goal of the season.
Bernasconi increased the Friars' lead to 2-0 at 37:32 when she drove down the middle of the field and finished a shot from the top of the circle. Bernasconi leads Providence with seven goals on the season.
The Wildcats answered with a goal from Megan Bozek at 47:13, but that was as close as they would get. The Friars carried their 2-1 lead until the end of regulation.
Junior goalie Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) played all 70 minutes in goal and recorded five saves in the victory.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 15 when the Friars will travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Boston University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
