CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Providence College softball team faced Maine and FAMU on Saturday, March 15 at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. The Friars were edged by the Black Bears, 4-2, and FAMU, 4-3. Junior third baseman Shanelle Harrell(Irvine, Calif.) went 2-for-3 against the Black Bears with two base hits.

In the first game, Providence jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a single from senior Kasey Bulman (Farmingdale, N.J.). Classmate Marie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) led off with a double. Junior Sarah Kitterman(Houston, Texas) reached base on an error. Bulman recorded he first hit of the season to send Flego home.

Maine answered with a pair in the top of the fifth. The Friars added a run in the bottom of the fifth but Maine again answered with a pair to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth.

Freshman Taylor Huntlythrew a complete game for the Friars and recorded three strikeouts in the afternoon outing.

In the second game of the day, sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) through a complete game. In seven innings, Amos recorded two strikeouts.

FAMU struck first in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. FAMU added a second run in the second to extend its lead to 2-0. The Friars answered in the top of the fourth tallying two runs (2-2). Junior Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) recorded runs for the Friars.

FAMU added a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Providence answered with a run in the top of the fifth when Luttrell worked her way home on a passed ball. Her run tied the game at 3-3 headed into the bottom of the fifth.

FAMU tallied its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to give it the 4-3 advantage.

The Friars conclude play at the USF Invitational versus CCSU on Sunday, March 16.
