LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Providence College softball team fell to UC Davis, 7-3, in its second game of the UCLA Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament on Friday, March 6 in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Friars (0-7) got out to a successful start, scoring in the first and third innings of the game, while the Aggies (8-11) remained scoreless. In the first inning, senior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) singled through the left side, sending senior Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) home to record the first RBI of the game. At the end of the first ending, the Friars were up 1-0.

After a scoreless second inning, the Friars then added two more runs in the third. With two outs, Dederick stepped up to bat and sent the ball to right field for a home run. Harrell also scored on the home run, giving Dederick an additional two RBI's. After the third inning, the Friars led the Aggies, 3-0, with Dederick totaling three RBI's.

UC Davis left all its scoring to the fifth inning. The Aggies scored seven runs with six hits at the bottom of the fifth, six of which were scored with two outs. After the fifth inning, UC Davis led the Providence, 7-3.

Freshman Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and junior Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) shared pitching duties for the Friars. Ramirez pitched 4.2 innings, registering two strike-outs and allowing seven hits, while Amos pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three hits. For the Aggies, Andrea Reynolds and Alicia Paine pitched 4.2 and 2.2 innings, respectively. Reynolds allowed three runs and seven hits, while Paine allowed two hits.

The Friars will be back in action on Sunday, March 8 for their final two games of the Tournament. The first game will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. EST against Illinois. In its second game, Providence will take on No. 13 UCLA at 6:00 p.m. EST for the second time in two days.
