Softball To Play Away Contests At Brown And At Villanova

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team will play at Brown at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (April 15) and then will travel to Villanova for a BIG EAST Conference three-game series on April 18 (12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.) and April 19 (12:00 p.m.).

Providence is led by junior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) who has a team-best .386 batting average and 32 hits. Senior Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) and sophomore Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) are also among the top Friars. Harrell currently ranks third on the team in batting average (.310), while Lundstrom ranks second in batting average (.313) and is tied for first with senior Krisite Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) in homeruns (7). Lundstrom also was named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week on April 6 and College Sports Madness BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week April 7.

On the mound, sophomore Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) leads the Friars in pitching with a 4.75 ERA and six wins in 17 appearances. Huntly also has pitched 84.0 innings and accumulated 32 strikeouts.

The Friars have an 8-18 (3-7 BIG EAST) record this season. Last time out, Providence played a three-game series against St. John's, where the Red Storm came away victorious in all three games.  

Brown is 10-15 (4-8 Ivy League) on the season. Janet Leung leads the Brown Bears with a .398 batting average and team-best 33 hits. Pitching for Brown, Katie Orona has started 12 of the 14 games she has appeared in, recording a 2.19 ERA.

For Villanova, Brittany Husk leads the Wildcats in batting average (.345). Lauren Herschberg has a team-best 43 hits and 20 RBI. On the mound for Villanova, Brett Lawrence has collected nine wins in 19 appearances, recorded a 1.33 ERA and accumulating 74 strikeouts. The Wildcats are 18-19 (6-6 BIG EAST) on the season.  

Following the games at Villanova series, Providence will play a single game at Fairfield in Fairfield, Conn. at 4:00 p.m. on April 22.
