Softball Set For Busy Week Ahead

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team will play a total of five games this week, starting with an away non-conference battle against Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The following day, the Friars return home to Raymond Field to host in-state rival URI at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. Over the weekend, Providence will travel to Georgetown for a BIG EAST three-game series on Saturday, April 25 (doubleheader) and Sunday, April 26 (single game). Saturday's double-header will begin at noon and 2:00 p.m., while Sunday's single game will start at 11:00 a.m.

Providence is led by junior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) who has a team-high 32 hits and a .386 batting average. Senior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) has a team-best 24 RBI while also having a team-high eight home runs.

Sophomore Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) leads the Friar pitching staff with a 3.97 ERA and eight wins. She has had 16 starts (20 appearances) and 12 complete games to go with 42 strikeouts in 107.2 innings pitched.

For the Fairfield Stags, Tori Reed leads the way with a .389 batting average. Reed and Sam Frungillo are tied for first on the team in RBI with 24, while Lauren Filicia leads in hits with 42. On the mound for the Stags, Nicole Gardon, Destinee Pallotto and Lauren Falkanger have shared pitching duties for Fairfield throughout the season. Gardon has a 4.08 ERA and has registered 17 strikeouts in 24 appearances. Pallotto has a 4.16 ERA and 50 strikeouts, while Falkanger has a 4.38 ERA, registering 64 strikeouts. The Stags are 15-19 on the season.

Leading the Rams (2-34) is Jenna Cubello with a team-best .301 batting average and three homeruns. Cubello is also tied for first with Megan Congro in hits with 25. Pitching for Rhode Island, Caitlin Kennedy leads the Rams with a 7.18 ERA in 30 appearances. She also has registered 26 strikeouts on the season.

Georgetown brings a record of 13-27 into the weekend with a 3-10 conference mark. The Hoyas will play a non-conference game against George Washington on Tuesday, April 21. Samantha Giovanniello and Theresa Kane are tied for the team-lead in hits with 33. Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida has a team-high 21 RBI. Megan Hyson leads the Hoyas in ERA at 3.39 with a 10-14 record and 11 complete games. Hyson has 142.2 innings pitched and 145 strikeouts.

Next week the Friars play two non-conference games, hosting Bryant on Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. and traveling to Boston College on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. Providence will also close out the regular season on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 with a three-game BIG EAST series against Creighton. Saturday's double header will begin at noon and 2:00 p.m. while Sunday's lone game and Senior Day will begin at 11:00 a.m.
