Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Providence College softball team defeated Fairfield, 4-2, in game three of the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday, March 19 in Stony Brook, N.Y. With the win, the Friars improved to 12-12, while the Stags moved to 8-9.
Providence jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after an error to send sophomore Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) home. In the bottom of the third, junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a single up the middle to send freshman Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) home for a 2-0 lead. The Friars tallied two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Lee singled to left field to knock in a run and Lundstrom registered another RBI for a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Fairfield tallied two runs for the final score, 4-2.
Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) recorded her fifth win of the season and pitched seven innings. She struck out six batters and allowed just four hits.
The Friars' game against Stony Brook tomorrow (March 20) has been cancelled due to impending weather conditions. The Friars will kick off BIG EAST play with an away game at Creighton at 12:00 p.m. on March 23 in Omaha, Neb.
