Softball Defeated At Seton Hall In Two Games

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated in two games at Seton Hall on Saturday, April 23 in South Orange, N.J. With the losses the Friars moved to 16-25 (2-11 BIG EAST) on the season.

In game one, the Friars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with a three-run home run from sophomore Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.).

Seton Hall retaliated with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Friars' lead to just one run, 3-2. In the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates added another two runs for the win, 4-3.

Junior Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched 6.2 innings, struck out six strike outs, and allowed six hits.

In game two, the Friars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to center field from graduate student Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) to bring in one run, followed by a two-run home run from junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.).

In the bottom of the fourth, Seton Hall added two runs to make the game 3-2. The Pirates added another two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

The Friars tied the game at four in the top of the sixth with an unearned run on an error. In the top of the sixth the Friars pulled ahead, 5-4, with a double from Lundstrom that knocked in one run.

However, in the bottom of the sixth Seton Hall tallied two runs to register the win, 6-5.

Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) started on the mound, pitched four innings, and struck out two batters. Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) recorded the loss, pitched two innings, and tallied four strike outs.

The Friars return to action tomorrow (April 24) at 12:00 p.m. for the final game of the three-game series versus Seton Hall
