Softball Defeated At Butler, 9-1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Butler, 9-1 in six innings, on Sunday, April 3 in Indianapolis, Ind. With the loss the Friars moved to 13-17 (1-4 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs moved to 21-14 (4-2 BIG EAST).

In the bottom of the first, Butler jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The Friars retaliated with a run in the top of the second after sophomore Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) scored on a passed ball to tie the game at one.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs tallied three runs to make the game, 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Butler added five more runs for the final score, 9-1.

Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) started on the mound, pitched 3.2 innings, and allowed eight hits. Junior Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched two innings, struck out one batter, and allowed six hits.

The Friars will return to action when they host Central Connecticut at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
