May 2, 2016 PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced by the BIG EAST Conference today (May 2) that Providence College softball sophomore
Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Additionally, freshman
Paige Mulry (West Roxbury, Mass.) and sophomore
Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
This past week, Rurka was a major component in the Friars' 4-0 week, with three wins in BIG EAST play. Rurka went 6-for-14 at the plate, with two doubles and one home run in the three-game series versus Georgetown. Rurka tallied eight RBI this week, with four coming in the Friars' 8-4 win over the Hoyas on Saturday, April 30.
Mulry, who tallied four RBI this week, batted .667 (6-of-9) this past week. She hit her first career home run in the 8-4 win versus Georgetown on Saturday.
Ramirez pitched in three of the four Friars' games this past week, holding a 1.75 ERA in 12.0 innings versus Georgetown. Ramirez struck out a total of eight batters in 17.0 innings pitched to improve her overall record to 10-8.
The Friars will return to action next weekend with a three-game series versus Villanova on Saturday, May 7 at noon and 2:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
