Jonathan Fauchon scored the lone goal for Providence on Saturday.

LOWELL, Mass.  – The No. 16/15 Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by UMass Lowell, 5-1, in the back-end of a home-and-home series on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Tsongas Center.

NOTES

- UMass Lowell thought they got on the board just 17 seconds into the game but after review their attempt did not cross the goal line. On the play, the River Hawks' Mirko Buttazzoni was assessed a game misconduct.

- Providence killed off both penalties in the first period and nearly cashed in on the man-down as Julius Sumpf's breakaway attempt rang off the post.

- The River Hawks opened the scoring at 4:01 of the second period as Jay Ahearn scored off an odd-man rush.

- UMass Lowell extended the lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded goal by TJ Schweighardt.

- Providence responded on the power play just 34 seconds later on Jonathan Fauchon's fourth strike of the season. Logan Sawyer and John Mustard were credited with the assists.

- The River Hawks cashed in a pair of power play goals in the third period from Lee Parks and Nate Misskey after PC's Roger McQueen was give five and game for grabbing the facemask.

- Jak Vaarwerk added an empty-net goal to account for the final scoring.
