COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Providence College softball team kicked off its season at the Gamecock Invitational, hosted by South Carolina, on Friday, February 7. The Friars were defeated by Toledo, 1-0, in game 1 and later in the day lost to Eastern Carolina, 6-4. Senior
Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) led the team with three hits across six at-bats in both games. She contributed two RBIs against the Pirates and also scored a run.
TOLEDO NOTES (GAME 1)
• The Friars and Rockets went scoreless through the first four innings. - Toldeo opened the scoring with a run at the top of the fifth.
• Providence was unable to find the answer in the remaining innings. Friars fell, 1-0.

Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) held Toledo to six hits across 18 at-bats. The graduate student registered two strikeouts and conceded one run over five innings.
• Aldrich recorded a team-high two hits.
EAST CAROLINA NOTES (GAME 2)
• The Pirates jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two runs coming in the second and three runs coming in the fifth.
• The Friars countered at the top of the sixth after Aldrich doubled to right center, effectively scoring two runners. It marked her third hit of the night across six at-bats.

Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and
Elisa Smith (Glenn Alen, Va.) kept the momentum, each recording an RBI single of their own to bring the score within one, 5-4.
• East Carolina added a run at the bottom of the six to extend its lead to 6-4.
• Junior
Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) made her debut for the Friars, striking out four batters while allowing six hits and three earned runs over four innings.
• Freshman
Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.) scored her first collegiate career run.
