COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Providence College softball team rounded out Gamecock Invitational play with a rematch versus the University of Toledo, on Sunday, February 9, in Columbia, S.C. The Friars were defeated by the Rockets, 11-3, in five innings and moved to 0-4 on the season. Junior
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) recorded her first home run of the season and eighth of her career.
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) hit a two-run single for the Friars.Â

GAME NOTESÂ
-Toledo opened the game's scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Â
- The Friars answered in the third inning with a pair of runs after Dunn hit a two-run single that effectively scored
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) and
Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.). Friars trailed 3-2.Â
- The Rockets countered in the third inning with five more runs to bring the score to 6-2 in favor of Toledo. Â
- In the top of the fourth, Peterson hit a home run to left field. It marked her first of the season and eighth of her career. Â
- The Rockets extended their lead to 11-3 after scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. The game ended after five innings. Â

Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) and
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) split time in the circle. Hopkins recorded one strikeout while conceding seven hits and six earned runs across 13 at-bats. Twomey faced 10 at-bats as she held Toledo to six hits and five earned runs. Â Â

The Friars will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to participate in the Bubly Tournament hosted by the University of Florida. Providence will play in five games from Feb. 14-16 consisting of two games against Binghamton and matchups against No. 3 Florida, Boston College and No. 7 Duke. Â Â
