Softball Defeats Creighton, 4-3, In Thrilling Comeback Win To Claim Three-Game Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 4-3, in a thrilling comeback win on Sunday, March 9, in Providence, R.I. The Friars scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the comeback victory. With the win, the Friars claimed the three-game series (2-1) and improved to 4-13 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST play. Creighton dropped to 10-8 overall (1-2 BIG EAST). Junior Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) led the lineup, finishing 3-3 at the plate. Senior Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) registered two RBI. 

GAME NOTES  

· The Friars opened the scoring with two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly from Douma and a wild pitch. Gabriella Sebastian (Ramsey, N.J.) and Smith crossed the plate for PC (2-0). 

· Providence recorded four hits in the third.  

· Creighton recorded a solo home run in the fourth to cut the deficit to one run (2-1). 

· The Bluejays took the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth (3-2).  

· Douma tied the score to 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single that scored Sebastian. Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) drew a walk with the bases loaded, which scored Smith to win the game, 4-3.

·Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) was awarded the win for the Friars. The graduate student faced 23 batters, struck out seven and conceded just four hits.  

ON DECK 

The Friars will host a doubleheader against Yale on Wednesday, March 12. The first game will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Both matchups will be available for stream on FloCollege.
