Friars Softball Earns 8-6 Road Win at Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Providence College softball team defeated Bryant University (14-27, 6-9 AE), 8-6, on Wednesday, April 21 in Smithfield, R.I. With the win, Providence improved to 20-25 overall. Senior Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) paced the offense with two doubles, three RBI and one run scored. She went 2-for-4 at the plate on the day.

GAME NOTES

· Douma opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double that brought home Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.), giving Providence a 1-0 lead.

· In the following at-bat, junior Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run. It marked her third home run of the season.

· Douma added to the lead in the second inning with a two-run double, putting the Friars ahead 5-0.

· Bryant got on the board with an RBI double in the bottom half of the second inning to make it 5-1.

· Providence pushed across three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) to extend the lead to 8-1.

· The Bulldogs responded with five runs over the final innings, including a three-run home run in the seventh, to get within two runs.

ON DECK

The Friars return home to host a three-game series against Tarleton State on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m., followed by the finale on Saturday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. Saturday's game will honor softball's senior student-athletes.
