Friars Defeated In Regular-Season Finale At Villanova

Cameron Dunn went 2-3 at the plate with a two-run RBI triple.

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Providence College softball team fell to Villanova, 13-5, in the regular-season finale on Sunday, May 4 at the Villanova Softball Complex. With the loss, the Friars finished the 2025 regular season with a 22-29 overall record (11-13 BIG EAST). Sophomore Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) led the Friars' offense with a 2-3 effort at the plate, including a two-run RBI triple.  

GAME RECAP 

· The Wildcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third.  

· Dunn answered in the fourth, blasting a triple into centerfield to score Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) (5-2). 

· Later in the inning, Dunn took advantage of a groundout by Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) to score a run and cut the Friars' deficit to 5-3. 

· Villanova scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth (6-3). 

· The Friars answered with two runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI single from Douma (6-5).  

· The Wildcats countered with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to seal a 13-5 win in six innings.  

· Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.), Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.), Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) and Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) each spent time in the circle for the Friars. 

ON DECK 

The Friars are looking to qualify the BIG EAST Championship for the first time since 2019. A Creighton victory over Seton Hall this afternoon would allow the Friars to secure the final spot in the tournament field. A Seton Hall victory would give the Pirates the final spot.
