Softball Falls To Utah State And No. 1 Texas Tech On Day Two At The Aggie Classic

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. (ET) for a rematch against No. 11 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The Providence College softball team went 0-2 on day two of the Aggie Classic. The Friars were defeated by Utah State, 3-1, in game one and fell to No. 1 Texas Tech, 13-1, in game two. Junior Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) led the team with two RBIs across four at-bats through both games, 
 
UTAH STATE NOTES (GAME 1)
  • Utah State scored two runs through the top of third to take the lead, 2-0.
  • The Friars responded with a run on an RBI double from Dunn in the bottom of the third (2-1).
  • Utah State scored a run in the fifth, extending their lead to 3-1.
  • Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) stepped into the mound for Providence and pitched two scoreless innings, recording five strikeouts.
  • The Friars were unable to find the answer and fell, 3-1.
  • Providence finished with three hits and one error.
 
TEXAS TECH NOTES (GAME 2)
  • Texas Tech jumped out to a 6-0 lead with five runs coming in the first and one run in the second.
  • Tech extended their lead to 12-0 with six runs in the fourth.
  • Dunn scored a home run in the bottom of the fourth to put the Friars on the board, 12-1.
  • Texas Tech added another run in the top of the fifth and won the game, 13-1.
  • The Friars finished with five hits and no errors.
 
ON DECK…
The Friars return to action tomorrow, February 8, at 10:30 a.m. (ET) for a rematch against host Texas A&M to close out the Aggie Classic.
