The Friars will return to action on Saturday, March 14 for a double-header against the Bluejays to complete the series.

OMAHA, Neb. – The Providence College softball team (6-11, 0-1 BIG EAST) opened BIG EAST Conference play in Omaha, Neb. against the Creighton Bluejays (12-14, 4-0 BIG EAST). Providence dropped game one of the series, 7-5, on Friday, March 13. Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) led the Friars' offense with two runs and two RBI.

GAME NOTES

  • Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) delivered a three-RBI double in the top of the first inning to give Providence an early 3-0 lead.
  • Creighton put up seven runs in the third to take the lead, 7-3.
  • Renny delivered a sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to three (7-4).
  • She followed with a solo home run in the top of the seventh to make the score 7–5, but Providence could not complete the comeback.
  • The Friars finished the game with five runs on seven hits.

The Friars return to action tomorrow [March 14] with a doubleheader against the Bluejays. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. (ET).
