PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (11-11, 5-1 BIG EAST) defeated DePaul (12-18, 3-6 BIG EAST) on Saturday, March 21 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars secured an 11-0 victory in five innings on senior day. Senior
Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) started in the circle for the Friars and earned the win. Junior Brianna De La Fuenta (Lexington, S.C.) recorded a grand slam in the fourth inning. Â

GAME NOTESÂ
• The Friars opened up the scoring in the second inning when Hopkins singled to left field and drove in
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.J.) to make it 1-0, Providence. Â
• Later in the inning,
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) had a bases clearing double that sent home Hopkins,
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.)Â and
Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.). Â
• In the next inning,
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) recorded a solo home run to give Providence a 5-0 lead.
• Later in the inning,
Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) doubled to left field to send Smith home. The Friars led 6-0 heading into the fourth. Â
• Providence loaded the bases in the fourth before Jonte crossed home plate on an error. On the next at bat, De La Fuente (Lexington, S.C.) hit a grand slam that sent home Renny, Peterson and
Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.). Providence took a commanding 11-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. Â
• Hopkins started in the circle and pitched four innings with four strikeouts.

Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and struck out two batters to secure the Providence win. Â
