SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College softball team (13-11, 6-1 BIG EAST) defeated Seton Hall Pirates (11-16, 2-8 BIG EAST) on Friday, March 27 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars secured a 9-6 victory that included a
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) home run in the second inning. With the win, the advance to 6-1 in the BIG EAST, tying a program record. Â

GAME NOTESÂ
• The Friars jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, when
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) doubled to right center, driving in
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) to make it 2-0 Providence.Â
• Providence added to its lead later in the first inning as
Elisa Smith (Glenn Allen, Va.) doubled down the right field line to score Renny, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.)Â that brought home
Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.), extending the Providence advantage.Â
• The Friars continued their strong start in the second inning when Lee homered to right center for a solo shot, extending the Providence lead to 4-0.Â
• Later in the inning, Peterson singled up the middle, driving in Dunn and
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) to add two more runs to make it 7-0, Providence. Â
• In the fourth inning, Smith singled up the middle to drive in Renny, and
Dominique Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) followed with an RBI single to bring home Smith, extending the Friars' lead.Â
• In the circle,
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I) earned the win, pitching three innings and earning two runs. She recorded four strikeouts.
Grace Brooks (Meridian, Idaho) and
Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) came in relief to secure the win. Â
