SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College softball team (14-12, 7-2 BIG EAST) was defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates (12-17, 3-9 BIG EAST), 4-3, on Sunday, March 29 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars' winning streak was snapped at eight games, tying a program record. Â

GAME NOTESÂ
• The Friars got on the board in the first inning when
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) grounded out to third base, bringing home
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) to give Providence an early lead.Â
• Providence added to its advantage in the second inning as
Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) doubled to left center, driving in
Elisa Smith (Glenn Allen, Va.)Â to extend the lead to 2-0.Â
• Smith provided a spark in the fourth inning, blasting a solo home run to left center to give Providence a 3-2 lead.Â
• Seton Hall responded with runs in the middle innings, including a solo home run from Sophia DeMarco and a two-RBI frame in the fourth inning to keep the game close.Â

Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) got the start in the circle for the Friars, pitching three innings, allowing two  earned runs on four hits.
Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) also pitched three shutout innings while striking out five.
