PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's lacrosse player
Ian Olenik (Windham, N.H.) was named to the NEILA Team of the Week on Monday, April 13. The Friars overcame a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat BIG EAST foe Villanova, 10-9, in overtime on Saturday, April 11, in Villanova, Pa.
Olenik recorded a career-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers in the Friars' overtime win. The junior forced a caused turnover in Villanova's final possession of regulation to keep the game tied and force overtime. In overtime, he picked up his sixth ground ball of the game to set up possession for the game-winning goal. Olenik currently leads the Friars' defense with a team-high 20 caused turnovers and ranks second on the team in ground balls (36). Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Matt Lazzarro (Franklin, Mass.) were each honored by the NEILA of the week on March 23.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars return to Providence, R.I. to host their annual senior day on Saturday, April 18 against BIG EAST foe Denver. Opening faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
