PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence college softball team (24-15, 13-3 BIG EAST) defeated Villanova (11-36, 5-14 BIG EAST) in game one of a three-game series on Friday, April 24 at Glay Field. With the win, Providence improved to 13-3 in BIG EAST play, tying the program record for most conference wins in a single season.
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) also added her 15h home run of the season in the victory, extending her own program single-season record after surpassing the previous mark of 13 earlier this year.
GAME NOTES:
- Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) each homered in the first inning to give Providence an early 3-0 lead.
- In the second inning, Dunn delivered again with an RBI single to center field, while Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch to extend the Friars' lead to 5-0.
- Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) added an RBI in the fourth to push PC's advantage to 6-0.
- The Friars secured the win in the fifth behind an RBI from Nikki Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.), who drove in two runs to make it 8-0
- Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) tossed a complete game in the circle, striking out seven batters to earn the win for Providence.
