Canisius got goals by senior Kevin Fildes, sophomore Tim Spaulding and Ferraro to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes of action. The Friars played strong in the second quarter, outscoring Canisius, 4-1, to build a two-goal lead at halftime.
Canisius regained the lead in the third quarter with six goals and led 10-8. The Friar defense shutdown Canisius in the third and tied the game with 7:49 remaining on a goal by sophomore Jack Cullinane. Neither team was able to score in the final minutes of regulation sending the game into overtime.
Ferraro's third tally of the game in overtime gave Canisius the win.
Junior Ken Leahy was PC's top scorer, netting three goals in the game.
With the win, Canisius raised its record to 3-6 and 3-3 in the MAAC, while Providence fell to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in league action.
The Friars will return to action on April 21 against Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. at 4:00 p.m.
