Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener To Harvard, 11-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated, 11-3, by Harvard on Wednesday, March 13, in Providence, R.I. The win snapped a six-game home field win streak for Providence, after winning all six home games at Glay Field in 2001. Nine of Harvard's 11 goals came in the first half, including five tallies in the second quarter.

Senior midfielder Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Friar effort with one goal and one assist. Senior Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) and junior Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored one goal each. Freshman Frank Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) registered one assists.

For Harvard, Jay Wich led all scorers with six points on one goal and a game-high five assists. Doug Logigian and Derek Nowak scored a game-high two goals each for the Crimson, while Logigian also recorded an assist. Matt Primm and Mike McBride each had one goal and one assist. Four other Crimson players, Michael Baly, Jeff Gottschall, Alex Vap and Hani Rimlawi, each registered one goal.

PC used three goaltenders in the game. Senior John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) started in goal. He made one save and allowed four goals. Freshman Matthew Welch (Raleigh, N.C.) replaced Farley in the first quarter and made 4 saves and allowed five goals before being replaced by Andrew McMinn (Pgh, Pa.), with 6:29 remaining in the game. McMinn allowed two goals and made one save.

Jake McKenna started in goal for Harvard. McKenna made 11 saves and allowed one goal. He was replaced by Brian Weeks at the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter. Weeks allowed two goals and did not record a save.

Providence (1-2) will host Vermont on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m., in Providence, Rhode Island. The game is scheduled to be played at Glay Field on the campus of Providence College.
