Providence College Friars (1-3 / 1-0 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team hosts Vermont, looking to rebound from two-consecutive non-conference losses. Most recently, the Friars were defeated, 8-3, by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. Sophomore Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.), sophomore Sean Kirwan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and senior Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) each scored one goal in the Providence effort. Sophomore Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) started in goal for the Friars and played just 35:31 minutes before being replaced by freshman Ron Westgate (Forestdale, Mass.). McMinn made nine save and allowed seven Crimson goals, while Wesgate stopped two shots and allowed one goal. On the season, the Friar offense has been led by Giuntini who has a team-high nine points on five goals and four assists. Sophomore John Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Meehan are second on the team in scoring with seven points each. Also, junior defenseman Ben Brown (Ranch Santa Fe, Calif.) leads Providence in groundballs with 12. Senior midfield Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) has four points this season and 97 career points, just three points shy of becoming the 17th Providence men's lacrosse player to reach the 100-point plateau. Last season, Providence hosted Vermont and defeated the Catamounts, 10-9. Vermont leads the all-time series however with a 10-3 all-time record versus Providence.

University of Vermont (2-4 / 0-0 America East): The Catamounts travel to Providence, R.I. to face the Friars looking to build on their most recent outing, a 16-7 victory against Siena. In that game, Vermont was led by freshman Mike Maher (Huntington Station, N.Y.) who scored two goals and added two assists. He is leads the team in points (18), goals (10), and assists (eight). Sophomore goaltender Michael Gabel (Falmouth, Mass.) finished with 16 saves in 45 minutes, giving up just four goals against Siena, while junior Matt Geary (Marshfield, Mass.) had five saves in 15 minutes. On the year, Gabel has started six games and has 2-4 record, a 6.96 goals against average, and a .675 save percentage. The Catamounts will be looking to defeat the Friars on their home turf for the first time since the 1996 season.
