PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Goaltender of the Week honors and junior David Krasnica (Mendham, N.J.) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in men's lacrosse for the week ending Sunday, April 27.
McMinn led the Friars to a 1-1 record last week, including a 1-0 mark in Conference action. In a 9-3 win over MAAC foe St. Joseph's on April 26, the Friars clinched a first-place tie in the regular-season MAAC standings, marking the highest finish in program history and eight year affiliation with the league. McMinn recorded nine saves in the victory on 28 shots and allowed just three goals. He also was credited with the assist on PC's eventual game-winning goal. The assist marked the first of his career. McMinn leads all MAAC goaltenders save percentage (.630) and goals against average (6.56). He also ranks in the top-five among all NCAA Division I goaltenders in each of those categories.
Krasnica, an attackman for the Friars, totaled six points in two games last week on two goals and four assists. In the win over St. Joseph's on April 26, he led the Friars with two goals and three assists for five points. Krasnica's five points in a game marks a career-high. Krasnica is currently third on the team in scoring with a career-high 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists. His nine goals and 12 assists also mark career highs.
Providence College completed the 2003 regular-season schedule with a 7-8 overall record and a 7-1 mark in MAAC. PC's seven conference wins are the most victories earned in MAAC action in program history and the eight year affiliation with the League. The Friars earned the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Championship Tournament and will face No. 3 St. Joseph's in the semifinals on Friday, May 2. The game is scheduled to be played on Leonidoff Field at 7:30 p.m. at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
