Providence College Friars (7-7, 6-1 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team hosts Canisius in the 2005 regular-season finale on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. Saturday's game between Providence and Canisius is a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match-up. A Friar victory would assure Providence at least a share of the MAAC Regular-Season title, and would give them the No. 1 seed entering the four-team MAAC Championship Tournament. Providence clinched a spot in the MAAC Tournament with a 10-9 victory over Manhattan on April 27. The Jaspers were previously unbeaten in the league. Going into Saturday's games, Providence and Manhattan are tied for first place in the MAAC standings, each with a 6-1 conference record. Senior Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) leads the Friars in scoring (30 points) and goals (24). He also has six assists to his credit. Giuntini has moved into 11th place on PC's all-time scoring list with 116 career points. He also ranks seventh all-time in career goals with 88. Senior Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) is second among his teammates in scoring with a single-season career high of 28 points on 19 goals and nine assists. Hollister has recorded at least one point in each of PC's last 13 games. Sophomore Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) leads the Friars in assists with 12. Senior face-off specialist Mark Rotella (Smithtown, N.Y.) has won 125-of-205 face-offs this season for an impressive 0.610 face-off percentage. He also leads the team with 74 groundballs, and now has 221 groundballs for his career. Rotella is 35 groundballs shy of tying the career record for groundballs (256), which is held by current Friar volunteer assistant coach and 1998 Providence graduate Jim Mascia. In addition, Rotella needs 10 face-off wins to reach 500 victories at the "X" for his career. Senior goalkeeper Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been the Friars' primary goaltender this season. He owns a 7.17 goals against average and a 0.599 save percentage. McMinn has held his opponents to nine or fewer goals in 10 of the 12 games he has played, including five or fewer goals in five games.
Canisius Golden Griffins (5-6, 4-3 MAAC): Canisius enters Saturday's conference match-up against Providence with a 5-6 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the MAAC. Sophomore Kevin Ross leads the Griffs with 21 goals and 15 assists for 36 points. Junior Dan Carey is second in scoring with 34 points and leads the team with 29 goals. Carey leads the conference averaging 1.00 man-up goals per game. As the team's primary goalkeeper, Angus Dineley leads the team with 91 saves and owns a 7.01 goals against average. In 411 minutes of action, Dineley has a 0.611 save percentage.
