Transition is something that everyone goes through, whether they want to or not; it is apart of life. Moving on into new things can be a life changing event, and sometimes it is a major obstacle to overcome. I know it was for me when I made the biggest transition in my life, thus far-- which was when I moved from high school basketball to college basketball. At first, I was kind of scared being away from home for so long, but with my new teammates and coaches I began to get over my fear and home sickness. It's as if they became my second family, I was able to lean on them for help.
Everything seemed so different to me from what I had experienced in high school. Practice was harder and I began to think I wasn't going to be able to manage it. But somehow my teammates convinced me that it would get better. They assured me that I would start getting used to the routine and that I could do it! It was all about transition. It was kind of strange at first because I had just met them (the team). But as time passed, I started to see that some of them were going through some of the same things that I was and that's why we were able to relate to each other. So far, my teammates were right!! Practice does get a little bit better with the exception of the running (LOL). Here at Providence, I've learned so many things. I've learned to adjust to my surroundings and new people. I've learned to ask for help when I need it, but most of all, I've learned that excuses are the tools of the incompetent.
I can't believe that we already played and won three games. I know that this year will be great with the mix of returning and new players on the team. If we all work together, put forth the effort and work hard continuously, I expect us to have a great year.
