HAMDEN, Conn. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to Quinnipiac, 5-4, in non-conference action on Saturday, March 8 in Hamden, Conn. Graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) tallied one goal and added one assist to lead the Friar effort. Quinnipiac was led by Mike Lamagna, who also recorded one goal and one assist.

Providence took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter as graduate student Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) connected on a goal just 2:53 into the game. Sophomore Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) was credited with the assist. Quinnipiac answered with three-straight goals to end the quarter, and took a 3-1 lead. The Friars bounced back to tie the game, 3-3, with 11:14 remaining in the second quarter on back-to-back goals from Murphy and graduate student Henry Pynchon (Ipswich, Mass.). Senior Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) was credited with assist on Murphy's goal, and proved to be his only point of the game. McBride entered the game as PC's goal scoring leader, but was shutout by the Bobcats. Pynchon's goal was unassisted.

Quinnipiac closed the half with a tally from Lamagna to put the Bobcats ahead, 4-3. It was a lead Quinnipiac would not relinquish. Sean Endicott followed with an insurance goal with 11:20 remaining in the third quarter off a feed from Lamagna. The Friars were held scoreless in the third quarter.

Providence managed the only goal of the fourth quarter, but the Friars' comeback fell short. Sophomore Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) was credited with the goal, and was assisted by Murphy.

Goalkeeper Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) took the loss between the pipes for PC. He allowed four goals and made two saves. Sophomore Frank Cicero (Venetia, Pa.) relieved Bryan and allowed one goal and made two saves in 38:40 minutes. Quinnipiac's Kevin Benzing played all 60 minutes and recorded seven saves. Providence out-shot the Bobcats, 26-20, and held the advantage in groundballs, 26-20.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, March 11 against North Carolina. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. It is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
