JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Jacksonville, 9-4, on Friday, March 5 at the Ashley Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla. The Friars were victimized by a first quarter in which Jacksonville outscored PC, 5-0. From there, Providence could not move closer than four goals (6-2) for the remainder of the contest. With the loss, the Friars drop to 0-2 on the season, while the Dolphins improve to 3-3.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Nolan (Westport, Conn.) paced the Friars with two points on a goal and an assist while senior defenseman Ryan Riedl (Winchester, Mass.) picked up three ground balls and caused four turnovers to lead the PC defense.

After the Dolphins scored the first five goals of the game, Nolan broke the streak with a score off an assist from senior attackman Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter. Neither team could score for the remainder of the half, and Jacksonville extended its lead to five at 6-1 on a goal by Donovan Lange in the first minute of the third quarter.

At the 10:09 mark of the third, sophomore midfielder Pete Wujciak (Essex Fells, N.J.) rifled a shot past Jacksonville goaltender Brad Hester to move the Friars back within four, but TJ Kenary scored the next two goals for the Dolphins to give JU a 8-2 lead with 1:47 left in the period. Senior midfielder Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) posted a goal at the 11:21 mark of the fourth quarter off an assist from Nolan to cut the Dolphins' lead to five (8-3) but JU scored 16 seconds later to move back ahead by six at 9-3. Junior defenseman Andrew Roussinos (Arlington, Mass.) finished the scoring with his first-career goal with 1:03 left in the game.

Sophomore goaltender Tim Finnegan (Lowell, Mass.) played the first 6:32 minutes for the Friars, allowing four goals while making three saves. Senior Frank Cicero (Swampscott, Mass.) played the remaining 53:28 in the cage and made six saves while allowing five goals.

Hester made two saves while allowing three goals in 51:02 minutes of action for the Dolphins. He was relieved by Brendan Nikalson, who made one save in 6:12 minutes, and Alex Discala, who allowed one goal in 2:46. Jacksonville was led offensively by Kenary, who recorded four points on three goals and an assist.

PC returns to action on Saturday, March 13 with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. Last season, the Friars earned a 7-6 victory against the Bobcats in Providence.
