STORRS, CONN. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to 5th-ranked Connecticut, 2-0, on Friday, September 24 in Storrs, Conn. It marked the BIG EAST for the Friars, who fall to 2-7 overall (0-1 BIG EAST). UConn improves to 7-1 and 2-0 in league play.
The Huskies came out of the gate quickly, netting both of their goals within the first eight minutes of play. The first came just 2:27 into the contest as Cara Silverman deflected a ball into the cage off a crossing feed from Anne Jeute. Allison Angulo notched the second UConn tally off a feed from Silverman at the 7:54 mark.
From that point on, the Friars settled in defensively and managed to hold the Huskies dangerous front-line scoreless the remainder of the contest. Junior goalkeeper Shannon DiStefano (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished the evening with nine saves for the Friars. UConn's Sarah Mansfield recorded two saves for the victory.
The Friars return to action on next weekend with back-to-back games at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. PC will host BIG EAST foe Syracuse on Saturday, October 2 and Albany on Sunday, October 3.
