NEWTON, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by eighth-ranked Boston College, 3-0, on October 3 in Newton, Mass.
Boston College found the back of the cage just 1:58 into the game as Emma Plasteras connected off a feed from Anna Wetherall. The Friars buckled down defensively and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the half.
The Eagles scored two unanswered goals in the second half at 53:31 and 63:49 for the 3-0 final. Chapin Duke netted the first on a corner play, which was assisted by Jacqui Moorfield. Maike de Jager finished the scoring with an unassisted goal.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon DiStefano (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered 11 saves in goal for Providence. Boston College held the advantage in shots (21-2) and corners (7-1).
The Friars return to action on Saturday, October 8 at Noon against BIG EAST foe Villanova. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
