Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Providence College softball team was defeated on day one of the USF Under Armour Invitational on Friday, March 4 in Clearwater, Fla. In game one, the Friars were defeated by Penn, 3-0, and in game two, the Friars were defeated by College of Charleston, 4-1. With the losses, Providence moved to 6-8 on the season.
In the first game versus Penn, the Quakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run homerun. In the bottom of the second Penn added another run.
Junior Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched six innings, she struck out three batters and allowed seven hits.
In the Friars' second game versus College of Charleston, the Cougars jumped out to 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the top of the third inning, College of Charleston added three more runs to get a 4-0 lead.
The Friars added a run in the bottom of the third when junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) flied out to centerfield, but knocked in a run. The Friars could not gain momentum and the game ended with a 4-1 loss.
Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched the first three innings, allowing six hits, while striking out four batters. Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) pitched the final four innings without allowing a run and striking out four batters.
The Friars will continue play in the USF Under Armour Invitational with a double header tomorrow (March 4) versus Western Michigan (2:45 p.m.) and Detroit (5:00 p.m.).
