PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Harvard, 8-2, on Thursday, April 21 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. With the loss the Friars moved to 16-23, while the Crimson improved to 21-14.

In the top of the first, Harvard tallied a run on a single and two runs on a double for a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send home senior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) to cut the Crimsons' lead to two runs, 3-1.

In the top of the second, Harvard tallied two more runs for a 5-1 lead. Harvard added another two runs in the top of the third and took a 7-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Baldassari stole home to make the game 7-2. Harvard knocked in another run in the top of the sixth on a double for a 8-2 lead.

Sophomore Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) started on the mound, pitched 2.1 innings, striking out two batters, and allowed nine hits. Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) pitched 4.2 innings, struck out two batters, and allowed five hits.

The Friars will return to action when they travel to South Orange, N.J. for a three-game series versus Seton Hall on April 23 and 24.
