Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team played a doubleheader against Seton Hall on Friday, April 6. The Friars split the games against Seton Hall, winning the first game 8-6 before dropping the second game 7-6.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) scored the first run when she reached home on an error by the third baseman.
- Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) kept the scoring going by hitting a single to left field to score Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.).
- Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) homered in the fourth inning to make the score 3-0.
- Seton Hall scored a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.
- The Friars broke the game open in the seventh inning. Paige Mulry (West Roxbury, Mass.) started the scoring by hitting a three-run home run to make the score 6-3. Veler made it back-to-back home runs as she hit a solo shot. Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) proceed to hit a double and was then driven in when San Antonio hit a double of her own.
- The Pirates made the game interesting by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but they could not close the gap.
- Rurka and San Antonio both went three-for-three in the game.
- Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched a complete game for Providence. She allowed six runs and struck out four batters in the win. She improved her season record to 4-7.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seton Hall struck first in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second.
- Providence responded in the top of the third when Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) doubled to score Veler.
- Providence tied the game in the top of the third when Mulry hit a single to score Lee.
- The Pirates reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth by scoring one run to make the score 3-2.
- Providence responded in the top of the fifth when Veler hit a single to left field to score Lee to make the score 3-3.
- The Friars broke the score open in the top of the seventh. Mulry drove in Lee with a single to make the score 4-3. Portillo then drove in both Rurka and Mulry with a single of her own to make the score 6-3.
- Seton Hall would rally in the bottom of the seventh, however, and win the game 7-6.
- Lee led the team with three hits in the loss. Rurka, Mulry and Veler each had two hits apiece.
- Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) pitched six innings for the Friars. She was responsible for all seven of the Pirates runs and received the loss. She moves to 2-8 on the season.
