Friars set to host the Eagles on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
PROVIDENCE WELCOMES BOSTON COLLEGE FOR NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP... The Friars welcome the Eagles to Alumni Hall for a non-conference match-up on Saturday, Nov. 15. The game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
FRIARS VS. EAGLES ALL-TIME... Providence and Boston College have met 61 times during the history of the two programs. The Friars lead the all-time series, 33-28. The Eagles have earned victories in 18 of the last 21 meetings between the two teams, including five-straight wins heading into Saturday's contest.
MOST RECENT MATCH-UP... Providence trailed 55-38 heading into the fourth quarter after committing eight turnovers in the third quarter and getting outscored 11-2 during the final 4:10 of the frame. Six of the Friars' eight turnovers occurred in the final 4:42 of the quarter. Providence rallied in the fourth, cutting the lead to 57-47 with a 10-2 scoring advantage at the midway point of the quarter. The Friars got as close as six, but the deficit proved too great as Boston College held on for the 67-60 win at Conte Forum. Four Friars scored in double figures, including current sophomore Orlagh Gormley. Gormley finished with a career-high 10 points and added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Olivia Olsen '25 recorded 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for Providence, while Grace Efosa '24, '25G scored a team-high 15 points. Teya Sidberry scored a game-high 20 points for the Eagles. The Friars dominated the glass with a 45-28 rebounding advantage.
LAST TIME PROVIDENCE DEFEATED BOSTON COLLEGE... Providence last defeated Boston College on Nov. 17, 2019. On that day, the Friars claimed a 70-60 victory in Providence, R.I. It capped a string of three-straight wins over the Eagles.
FRIARS AND EAGLES ALL-TIME AT ALUMNI HALL... The Friars lead the all-time series vs. the Eagles at Alumni Hall, 17-12. Boston College has earned victories in each of the last two games played on the Friars' home court.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE... Boston College enters Saturday's game with a 3-1 record. The program was picked to finish 17th of 18 teams in the ACC Women's Basketball Predicted Order of Finish, voted on by the league's 18 coaches and a Blue Ribbon Panel. The Eagles opened the season with a 72-71 loss to Holy Cross, but have won each of their last three games. Teionni McDaniel leads BC in scoring with 16.5 points per game and also contributes 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Lily Carmody is averaging 10.0 points, 4.8 boards, 1.8 steals and a team-best 3.3 assists per game. Jocelyne Grier rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.0 points per game. Amirah Anderson is the team's leading rebounder (6.0 rpg). Through four games, Boston College is outscoring its opponents by an average of 20.0 points per game. Boston College returned just two players from last year's roster.
HOW THE EAGLES FARED IN 2024-25... Boston College posted a 16-18 overall record last season, including a 6-12 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles advanced to the Second Round of the ACC Tournament, where they fell to No. 5 seed North Carolina, 78-71. Boston College earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) and fell to Villanova, 76-70.
FAMILIAR FACE... Boston College Assistant Coach Kristina Baugh is a 2007 graduate of Providence College. She played four seasons for the Friars (2003-07) and played 109 games with 62 appearances in the starting line-up.
FRIARS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON... Providence recorded its first win of the season on Nov. 10 against Central Connecticut State University (65-40). After leading by just four points at the conclusion of the first quarter (15-11), the Friars outscored the Blue Devils, 50-29 the rest of the way.
BIG DAY ON THE BOARDS... The Friars recorded 55 rebounds against Central Connecticut on Nov. 10. It marks the most rebounds in a game for Providence since Nov. 9, 2013. On that day, the team hauled in a program-record 65 boards against UMass Lowell. Against CCSU, Teneisia Brown recorded a game-high 14 rebounds. A trio of Friars, including Sabou Gueye, Orlagh Gormley and Ashley Dinges, each recorded eight rebounds.
FIRST DOUBLE-DOUBLE AS A FRIAR... Graduate transfer Teneisia Brown recorded her first double-double as a Friar, and 32nd of her career, on Nov. 10 vs. Central Connecticut. She finished the game with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Through two games, Brown is averaging a double-double for Providence with 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
TENEISIA BROWN ECLIPSES 1,200 CAREER POINTS... Grad transfer Teneisia Brown scored 12 points in the Friars' most recent game against CCSU on Nov. 10 and eclipsed 1,200 points for her career. Brown arrived at Providence for her final season after stops at Merrimack (2020-22) and Fairleigh Dickinson (2023-25). She averaged double figures in the scoring column during each of her last three seasons of college basketball and currently ranks second on the team in scoring for the Friars through two games (10.0 ppg). Brown has a career scoring total of 1,206 points heading into Saturday's game against Boston College.
SABOU GUEYE LEADS THE OFFENSE... Graduate transfer Sabou Gueye leads the Friars in scoring through the first two games of the season, with an average of 16.0 points per game. She's shooting 50-percent from the field (13-26). She opened the season with 16 points (6-11 FG) vs. Howard on Nov. 4 and most recently scored 16 points (7-15) against Central Connecticut on Nov. 10.
ORLAGH GORMLEY STARTS STRONG AFTER INJURY-SHORTENED ROOKIE SEASON... Sophomore Orlagh Gormley enters Saturday's game averaging 7.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 steal and a team-best 3.5 assists per game. She has looked strong in her return to the court after missing the final 22 games of her rookie season with an injury. In the Friars' most recent game against Central Connecticut, Gormley recorded eight points and a career-high eight rebounds. She also matched her career high in assists (six).
PAYTON DUNBAR MAKING IMMEDIATE IMPACT IN FIRST SEASON... Sophomore transfer Payton Dunbar is making an immediate impact during her first season with the Friars. She leads the team in minutes played (27.0 mpg) and ranks third in scoring (9.0 ppg) and second in assists (3.0 apg), while also contributing 1.5 rebounds per game.
PROVIDENCE DROPS SEASON OPENER TO HOWARD... The Friars were defeated by Howard, 68-56, in their season opener on Nov. 4 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Bison used a 9-2 run in the final 3:15 of the third quarter, including a three at the buzzer, to claim a 50-39 lead heading into the fourth. Howard extended its lead to as many as 18 with 2:20 left to put the game out of reach. Providence managed to get within 64-54 with an 8-0 run, but the deficit proved too large to overcome. Sabou Gueye led the Friars with 16 points and four steals. Payton Dunbar tallied 12 points, four assists and two rebounds. Howard out-scored Providence 26-12 in points off turnovers. The Friars committed 20 miscues in the game, compared to Howard's 12 turnovers.
NEW LOOK FRIARS TAKE THE COURT IN 2025-26... The Friars have reloaded their roster for the 2025-26 season after losing 10 players to graduation (seven seniors and three graduate students). Junior Sophi Hall and sophomores Orlagh Gormley and Audrey Shields are the only returning players on the roster that have seen game action in a Friar uniform. The remainder of this year's roster is made up of five transfer student-athletes, five true freshmen and one red-shirt freshman.
FRIARS DEFEAT FRANKLIN PIERCE IN EXHIBITION GAME... The Friars hosted NCAA Division II Franklin Pierce in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars claimed a decisive 71-38 victory, clamping down defensively in the second half to allow just 10 points over the final 20 minutes of play. Sabou Gueye and Payton Dunbar each scored 12 points to pace the offense. Teneisia Brown recorded seven points, four rebounds and a team-best five assists. Ashley Dinges tallied nine points and a team-best six rebounds and two blocked shots. Providence forced Franklin Pierce into committing 30 turnovers and held a 29-19 scoring advantage in points off turnovers in the game. The Friars also dominated the glass with a 40-26 edge in rebounding.
HOME-SWEET-HOME... The Friars will play eight of their 11 non-conference games in the friendly confines of Alumni Hall / Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I., including a five-game home-stand to start the season.
BROADCAST AND TV ASSIGNMENTS... As part of the BIG EAST's television and broadcast deal, the Friars will be featured on a host of network platforms encompassing television and streaming during the 2025-26 season, including FS1, TNT, truTV, Peacock and ESPN+. Additionally, Providence's games at the Emerald Coast Classic will be available on FloCollege and its non-conference match-up at South Carolina will be broadcast on the SEC Network. Each of the Friars' home non-conference games will be broadcast live on ESPN+, in addition to 15 of the program's 20 BIG EAST Conference regular-season games. EMERALD COAST CLASSIC... Providence will participate in the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Fla. prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 24-25. The Friars will face Middle Tennessee State in the first game of the tournament on Nov. 24. Providence will conclude the tournament on Nov. 25 against Mississippi State or Alcorn State. Under the direction of third-year Head Coach Erin Batth, the Friars have participated in the West Palm Beach Classic (2022-23) and the Cancun Challenge (2024-25).
BIG EAST PRESEASON POLL... The Friars were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released at the league's annual media day on Oct. 21 at Madison Square Garden. Last season, Providence completed the year with a 13-19 overall record and claimed a seventh-place finish in the regular-season standings with a 6-12 conference record.
ERIN BATTH ERA... Erin Batth enters her third season with the Friars in 2025-26. She was hired as the 11th women's basketball coach in program history at Providence College on March 20, 2023. Batth arrived in Friartown with 17 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience, with her most recent stops coming at NC State (2018-22) and Michigan (2022-23). She has been part of five conference championships, eight NCAA Elite Eight appearances and three trips to the NCAA Sweet 16. She also served as an assistant coach at Liberty (2017-18), Georgia State (2014-17), Tennessee Tech (2012-14) and Towson (2010-12). Batth earned her first career win as a head coach on Nov. 7 vs. Hampton (76-46). She helped the Friars earn a bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) in her first year at Providence in 2023-24.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will host their annual Project Providence game on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 11:00 a.m. in Alumni Hall as the team takes on Northeastern University. The event is expected to welcome more than 1,100 elementary and middle school children from the region.
