The Friars record their first BIG EAST road sweep since 2012.
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College softball team defeated DePaul University in five innings, 11-2, to sweep the three-game BIG EAST series on Saturday, March 22 at Cacciatore Stadium in Chicago, Ill. It was the program's first three-game road sweep of a BIG EAST opponent since sweeping Villanova from March 31 – April 1, 2012.
- The Friars rushed out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. RBI singles from Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.), along with a three-run triple by Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) gave Providence the early cushion.
- Providence extended its lead to 7-0 in the second inning as Emma Douma reached on an error, scoring Eichten.
- The Friars led 10-0 after three innings after a Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) RBI single.
- Petrarca added an RBI double in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 11-0.
- Lydia Ettema got the Blue Demons on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to make it an 11-2 game.
- Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) improved to 5-6 this season after her complete game performance. She surrendered two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
- Petrarca finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a game-high four RBI.
