Softball Hosts Ocean-State Foe URI In Mid-Week Doubleheader

The Friars and Rams will square off on Tuesday, March 25 on Glay Field.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College softball team is set to host a doubleheader matchup against the Rhode Island Rams on Tuesday, March 25 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The opening game is slated for 4:00 p.m., followed by game two at 6:00 p.m. Both games will be available for viewing on FloCollege. 

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters the game with a 10-16 overall record, including a 6-3 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars went 4-0 last week, earning a win over Boston College (7-4) and also swept a three-game series in conference play at DePaul. 

Seniors Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) and Bella Sebastion (Ramsey, N.J.) each delivered strong performances at the plate. Petrarca batted .500 (5-for-10) with three RBI, highlighted by a 2-for-3 performance in the 11-2 win over DePaul on March 22. She added an RBI single, an RBI double and a three-run triple during the series. Sebastion added five hits, five runs scored and three RBI, finishing the week with a .857 slugging percentage and a .438 on-base percentage. 

Sophomores Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) also played key roles in the team's four victories last week. Eichten leads the BIG EAST in doubles (five), ranks second in hits (13), and stands sixth in on-base percentage (.594). She recorded six hits last week, including two doubles, while driving in four runs and scoring four. Dunn was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting six hits and six RBI, including two home runs. She drove in three runs in the comeback win over Boston College, including a go-ahead, two-run homer and added a solo home run and a two-run single during the DePaul series. Dunn finished the week with a .500 batting average, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .588 on-base percentage. 

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND 

URI heads into the doubleheader with a 6-15 overall record and a 2-4 record in Atlantic 10 action. The Rams are coming off a three-game conference series against Dayton, where they claimed victory in one of three games. 

Kylie Bulinski and Katie Knarr lead the lineup for the Rams. Bulinski leads the squad in RBI (11), home runs (four), slugging percentage (.636) and on-base percentage (.474). Knarr holds a team-best 19 hits.  

Avery Vale-Cruz leads the Rams' pitching staff with a 2-1 record, a 3.62 ERA and a .328 opponent batting average. She has tallied 32 strikeouts while allowing 18 hits and 15 earned runs over 29 innings of work. 

ON DECK  

The Friars will travel to Queens, N.Y. to take on conference opponent St. John's in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. with all games streaming on FloCollege.
