PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated the Boston University Terriers (22-11, 6-0 Patriot League), 3-2, in a seventh inning comeback win, on Wednesday, April 2, on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. With the victory, PC improved to 12-20 overall (6-6 BIG EAST). The triumph marked the first win over Terriers since March 7, 2021.
Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) recorded an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to jumpstart the Friars' scoring and tie the game, 2-2. With one out on the board in the seventh,
Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) hit an RBI single down the left side that scored
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) and secured the 3-2 win for the Friars.
GAME NOTES
- Boston University jumped out to an early 2-0 start with an RBI double in the first and an RBI single in the top of the second.
- The two teams were scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) drilled a two-run RBI double into left-centerfield to tie the score, 2-2. Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) and Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) each crossed the plate.
- With one out on the board in the seventh, Petrarca hit an RBI single down the left to secure a 3-2 victory for the Friars.
- This marked Providence's first win over the Terriers since March 7, 2021.
- Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) entered as a relief pitcher in the final at-bat of the game and secured her third win of the season. The senior split time in the circle with Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) and Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.). Hopkins and Grifone combined for three strikeouts, while conceding four hits each.
