COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Providence College softball team traveled to College Park, Md. to compete at the Terrapin Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland. On the opening day (Feb. 27), the Friars defeated Farfield, 8-7, in a come-from-behind effort in the seventh inning, and UMBC, 9-6, in game two.
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded two home runs and five RBI on the day.Â

FAIRFIELD NOTES (GAME 1)
- The Friars were able to load the bases in the second inning but we're unable to score a run.
- Fairfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning after the Friars recorded an error that led to three unearned runs.Â
- Providence cut into the Fairfield lead in the top of the fifth inning when Brook Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) crossed the plate after an throwing error on a Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) single.Â
- Later in the inning, Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) connected on a pitch for a two-run home run over the left field wall to make it a 6-3 game. It marked De La Fuente's first homer of the season.Â
- Dunn opened the seventh inning with her fifth home run of the season to make it 7-4.  Later in the inning, after Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) and Peterson got on base, Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) sent one over the wall to tie the game, 7-7.Â
- After Providence tied the game, Nikki Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) and Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) got on base before Emerson Buckley (Methuen, Mass.) sent Gallardo home on an RBI double to right field to give Providence its first lead of the game.Â
- Freshman Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) returned to the circle in the bottom of the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to secure the Friar win.Â
- Grace Brooks (Meridian, Idaho) recorded the start for the Friars, pitching four innings and giving up one run. Frye came in to start the fifth, pitching three innings while allowing one hit.Â

UMBC NOTES (GAME 2)
- UMBC opened the scoring in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
- Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) scored on an RBI from Frantz in the bottom of the first to put the Friars on the board, 2-1.
- Providence scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead, with RBIs from Lee, Peterson and Frantz.
- The Retrievers added a run in the third to narrow PC's lead to 4-3.
- Dunn hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Friars lead to 8-3.
- UMBC scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 8-6.
- Gallardo had an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to give Providence a 9-6 lead.
- Alanah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the win for the Friars, 9-6.
- Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) recorded the start for Providence, pitching 5.1 innings and recording six strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season.Â

The Friars return to action tomorrow, February 28, for day two of the Terrapin Invitational. They will face UMBC in a rematch at 10:00 a.m. followed by a second game against host Maryland at 3:00 p.m.
