UMBC NOTES (GAME 1)Â
• UMBC opened the scoring in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.Â
• The Retrievers added two runs in the fourth to extend their lead (5-0).Â
• Providence cut the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the sixth when
Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.) scored on a wild pitch and
Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) drove in
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.).Â

Zoe Krizan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) scored on an RBI by Peterson in the seventh inning to cut the score to 5-4, but the rally fell short as UMBC hung on to win the game.Â
• Peterson led the offense with two hits and one RBI.Â

• Maryland took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

• In the fourth inning, Providence cut into the Maryland lead when Brianna De La Fuenta (Metuchen, N.J. ) singled to shallow center field, driving inÂ
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) from second base to make it an 8-5 game. Â
• In the fifth, Lee reached on a fielder's choicer, which yielded two runs for the Friars to make it a one-score game (8-7).
• In the sixth, Frantz reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on the throw. Peterson was able to cross the plate with solid base running to get the Friars within 9-8.Â
• Maryland pulled away in the sixth inning to claim a 15-8 win. Â
