Softball Sweeps Midweek Doubleheader Against Stonehill On Glay Field

Five Friars combined for six home runs on the day.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Stonehill (0-12) on Wednesday, March 11 at Glay Field. The Friars secured a 10-1 victory in six innings in the opener before winning game two,11-0, in five innings. Providence improved to 6-10 on the season. Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded two home runs on the day and Julia Renny (Syosset N.Y.), Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.), Zoe Krizan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) each recorded one.
 
GAME ONE NOTES
  • Stonehill took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Dunn homered to right field in the bottom of the first to put the Friars on the board (1-1).
  • Renny had a home run in the second for Providence to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Dunn launched her second home run of the game and Renny added an RBI in the third inning to give Providence a 4-1 lead.
  • Providence took an 8-1 lead in the fourth inning behind an RBI from Dunn and a three-run home run by Peterson.
  • Krizan hit a two-run walk-off home run to left field in the sixth inning, scoring Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) to secure the 10-1 victory.
  • Addy Frye (New Castle, Pa.) posted a 1.75 ERA and recorded the win to improve to 2-2 on the season.
 
GAME TWO NOTES
  • Providence took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning behind RBI doubles from Dunn and Peterson.
  • The Friars extended their lead to 8-0 in the second inning with RBIs from Peterson, Dunn, Krizan and Nikki Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.).
  • Providence extended its lead to 11-0 in the third inning as Jonte hit a home run to left field and Renny followed with an RBI double.
  • The Friars maintained their lead through the fifth to secure the 11-0 win.
  • Grace Brooks (Meridian, Idaho) pitched three innings and recorded two strikeouts to earn the win.

The Friars will open BIG EAST play in Omaha, Neb. against Creighton in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
