Three different Friars hit home runs in the win.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (18-14, 9-2 BIG EAST) defeated the St. John's University Red Storm (26-15, 6-8 BIG EAST), 9-3, on Saturday, April 11, at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Junior Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.), freshman Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) and sophomore Zoe Krizan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all hit home runs for the Friars.
GAME NOTES
• In the second inning, Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) singled to left field with two outs, driving in Krizan and Dominique Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) to tie the game at 2-2.
• In the third, De La Fuente led off the scoring with a solo home run to left field, putting Providence ahead 3-2.
• Later in the inning, Krizan blasted a two-run homer to left-center field, bringing in Frantz to give Providence a 5-2 advantage.
• In the fifth inning, Frantz launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.) to push the lead to 7-2.
• To begin the sixth, Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) doubled to center field, driving in Emily Jonte to make it 8-3.
• Later in the inning, De La Fuente lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Emerson Buckley (Methuen, Mass.) to score and extend the lead to 9-3.
• In the circle, freshman Grace Brooks (Meridian, Idaho) got the start. She was later relieved by Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.), who earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief and Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.). The pitching staff combined for eight total strikeouts.
