Softball Sweeps Midweek Doubleheader

Cameron Dunn recorded her 13th and 14th home runs, breaking the single-season record.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (21-14, 10-2 BIG EAST) defeated Boston University (34-12, 11-1 Patriot Legue), 4-1, in game one and defeated Brown University (11-20, 4-8 Ivy Legue), 5-2, in game two during a midweek doubleheader at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Junior Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded her 13th home run of the season, breaking the program single-season record. The junior also recorded a home run in the second game, her 14th of the season. 
GAME ONE NOTES (BOSTON UNIVERSITY)
  • BU took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning.
  • Providence took the lead in the sixth inning, as Cameron Dunn and Julia Renny each hit solo home runs, followed by RBI from Olivia Petrillo and Emily Jonte to give the Friars a 4-1 lead.
  • Grace Brooks (Meridian, Idaho) recorded the win, tossing three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
GAME TWO NOTES (BROWN)
  • Providence got on the board in the third inning when Dunn blasted a two-run home run to right-center field, scoring Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) to tie the game at 2-2.
  • In the fourth, Jonte singled to the pitcher, driving in a run, while Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.) also scored and Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) came home on a throwing error, as Providence took a 4-2 lead.
  • In the sixth inning, Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in Jonte to extend the Friars' lead heading into the final frame. 
  • In the circle, Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) got the start and finished five innings, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out seven. Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) came in relief, each pitching an inning. The staff combined for nine total strikeouts.

The Friars will travel to Storrs, Conn. to play UConn in a three-game BIG EAST series from April 17-19. The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
