SCOUTING PROVIDENCEÂ
Providence enters the series having won 22 of its last 26 games. The Friars recently opened BIG EAST play with a program-best 7-1 start. Additionally, their eight-game winning streak, which tied a school record, came to an end in the series finale against Seton Hall earlier this season. Their 15 conference wins marks a program record as well. The Friars have clinched their spot in the 2026 BIG EAST Softball Tournament, which will be held in Chicago on May 7-9.  Â
Â
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.), Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) have each recently reached the 100-career-hit milestone. Dunn also broke the program's single-season home run record with her 13th of the year on Wednesday, April 15, against Boston University.Â
Â
Dunn has had an impressive season for Providence. The infielder has been featured on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times and leads the team with 55 RBI, 15 home runs, and a .883 slugging percentage while batting .425. Her 15 home runs and .883 slugging percentage both rank second in the BIG EAST.Â
Â
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) has also provided a strong presence in the lineup, posting a .417 batting average. The senior has recorded 40 hits, 17 RBI, and a .583 slugging percentage. Jonte was named BIG EAST Player of the Week earlier this season following her performance in a weekend sweep of DePaul and was most recently featured on the league's honor roll.Â
Â
In the circle, junior Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) leads the pitching staff with a 10-1 record and a 3.12 ERA, which ranks second in the BIG EAST. She has recorded 62 strikeouts over 76 innings pitched. Twomey was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 13 after going 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 18.0 innings to help Providence sweep St. John's. She also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following her performance in a series sweep over Villanova. She threw two complete games in the St. John's series, including a shutout to clinch the sweep.Â
Â
Freshman Addy Frye (New Castle, Pa.) has also emerged as a key arm for the Friars. She was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 20th after going 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 11 strikeouts in wins over Brown and UConn. Her victory against UConn clinched the series for Providence and helped the Friars maintain first place in the BIG EAST standings.
