PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by Villanova, 4-0, in Villanova, Pa., on Saturday, October 9.
Villanova took a 1-0 lead 6:55 into the match when Abby Sordoni scored a goal out of a penalty corner. Amy Jackson was credited with the assist on the goal. At the 10:54 mark Sordoni registered her second goal of the game. A little over a minute later, Sordoni scored her third goal of the game when she tipped in a shot by Ally Smith. Smith was credited with the assist. Her three goals in the first half put the wildcats out in front 3-0 entering halftime.
In the second half, Meredith Sabatini added a goal for Villanova at the 40:43 mark. Dana Ramsden recorded the assist on the goal. The game would remain scoreless the rest of the way as Villanova secured the 4-0 victory.
For the match, Villanova held the advantage in shots, 16-8, while Providence held the advantage in penalty corners, 8-7.
Providence returns to action on Monday, October 11 when they host Vermont. The game is scheduled to start at noon at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
