PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (17-14, 8-2 BIG EAST) defeated the St. John's University Red Storm (26-14, 6-7 BIG EAST), 1-0, on Friday, April 10, at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Senior
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and Junior
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) recorded the win in the circle.
GAME NOTES
• In the first inning,
Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, allowing
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) to score an unearned run while Peterson advanced to second — 1-0, Providence
• In the third inning,
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y. ) doubled to right-center field, bringing home Dunn to give Providence a 2-0 advantage. Later in the inning, De La Fuente singled down the left field line with two outs, driving in Renny to extend the lead to 3-0.
• In the fifth inning the Friars extended their lead when Peterson launched a grand slam to left-center field, scoring
Becca Weaver (Cary, Ill.), Dunn, and
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) in a four-run inning for Providence. The score became 7-1, Providence.
• In the sixth, Dunn singled to left-center field, driving in Jonte for an RBI, making it 8-3, Friars.
• In the circle, Twomey pitched all seven innings, striking out four. Her record improved to 7-1.
